Hi y’all!

Since goals were a major topic for our team this past month, and they were likely on your mind as well, we thought it would be fun to sit down with our whole team to have a conversation about our love/hate relationship with goals, when they work, and when they don't. You can listen to Our Love/Hate Relationship With Goals here.

We also started a new podcast series on power dynamics. Leadership is inherently about the use of power. However, we've noticed how uncomfortable leaders get not just talking about power, but even thinking about it. In this conversation, we look at what power means and how we can use it wisely. You can find part 1 in the series here, Power Dynamics for Trustworthy and Transformative Leaders.

Thanks for reading. I hope you find the resources below helpful. We would love to hear from you too. What have you been learning, thinking about, or encouraged by lately?

What’s Happening in Our Nervous System?

Shared by Aundrea Baker

I recently discovered this episode of OnBeing where Krista Tippett discusses the neurobiology of the pandemic with her guest Dr. Christine Runyan, a clinical psychologist. Dr. Runyan explains how the pandemic has been traumatic to society, leading us to live in a state of constant anxiety resulting in physical and behavioral issues. From her perspective in neuroscience, she offers helpful strategies we can use to help calm our nervous systems and deal with the ongoing threat of Covid. Their conversation helped me to understand myself and changed my approach to the pandemic. I’m also sharing another podcast in which Dr. Runyon shows us how to offer compassion to ourselves.

Feeling rejected? Look for the triangles.

Shared by Michael De Ruyter

Triangles are one of the most common ways a relationship system manages anxiety. They are not good or bad, but they can keep us from dealing directly with challenges in one-to-one relationships. The higher the level of anxiety in a family or organization, the more quickly triangles will activate.
– Dr. Kathleen Smith

How does triangling show up in your life? How have they been useful? How have they created challenges?

In a recent episode of The Leader's Journey Podcast titled Disrupting Our Autopilot: The Only Way Things Change, Jim and Trisha discuss how difficult it can be to experience real change, why it can be so difficult, and what we can do to make real progress. During their conversation, Jim and Trisha referenced the book Immunity to Change by Dr. Lisa Lahey and Dr. Robert Kegan a handful of times so I decided to explore some of the key ideas presented in that work in this issue of the newsletter....

Hi all! In this issue of the newsletter, we'll be sharing excerpts from eight of our most popular podcast episodes from this past year, but before we jump into that, I want to share a handful of updates and reminders since the last issue.
